Does your Meta Description Directly Help your Google Rankings?
Transcript from Video:
Hi, I’m Geoff from Leapfrog Internet Marketing.
Does your meta description directly help your Google rankings? The short answer is no. Officially, Google has said that your meta description doesn’t directly impact your Google rankings. And you can see something here saying pretty much the same thing. So what that means in terms of directly influencing, is say your keyword that you’re targeting was, say, “dentist in Hampshire,” if you were gonna directly influence the rankings, it would mean that in your meta description to say here if you put “dentist in Hampshire,” that would then improve your rankings. And Google is saying, “No, that doesn’t improve your rankings directly.”
However, changing your meta description does improve your rankings indirectly. And that’s why it features in “The Periodic Table of SEO Factors,” which is in…which lots of SEO professionals input, too, and you can see here that meta description features.
So, in a future blog, we’ll look at why the meta description is still worth optimising because of the indirect factors that improve your rankings and move you higher up on Google page one. So, I hope that helps. Let me know if you’ve got any questions.
