There is a free to access online tool from Google that few dentists are making use of but can help with marketing. Google My Business is for small businesses that need to make a big impact locally. If you’re a dentist and are wondering why your practice doesn’t appear on Google Maps in search results, but other dentists do; it might be because they are making use of Google My Business.
What is Google My Business?
Google My Business is a free and easy-to-use tool for dentists to manage their online presence across Google, including Search and Maps. Once your practice is verified, you can edit your practice information, help patients find your dental surgery and tell them your story.

- Essential contact information – address, phone, email website etc.
- List services e.g. check up, hygienist, colouring, cosmetic etc.

Why should I sign my practice up to Google My Business?
There’s no reason not to. It’s free, designed for businesses like dentists in mind, adds weight to a practice’s online presence, helps people find the website and has a positive effect on search engine optimisation (SEO). Research (admittedly, by Google) suggests that businesses (including dentists) that verify their information with Google My Business are twice as likely to be considered reputable by consumers.
How your dental practice can sign up to Google My Business
To get your dental practice on Google Search and Maps, you’ll need to register for a Google My Business account. To do this open the Google My Business page, click ‘Manage Now’ and follow the steps. In some cases your dental practice might already appear, in which case you can claim it. If not then you create the profile using Google’s prompts.
