Google Plus is Dead – Long Live Google My Business
Transcript from Video:
Hi, I’m Geoff from Leapfrog Internet Marketing. This is a look at Google Plus, why it’s dying, and what you can do about it. So Google Plus was the social media platform that Google launched eight, nine years ago to try and compete with Facebook and Twitter, and it never really got critical mass. So Google, now, is shutting it down. It was drafted to be closed in August. They’ve now moved that forward to April because it’s been hacked for a second time. So there’s a data breach there. So, what should you do?
Well, if you’re using Google Plus, if you want to download your data, there is a facility to do that. But if you haven’t really used Google Plus, there’s nothing really to worry about. The one impact from an SEO perspective really is Google Plus arguably was the quickest way to get a new content crawled by Google. Probably the next best thing will be to get your content shared on Twitter. Google does share data with Twitter and would see your blog posts. So, what to do next?
Well, Google really is moving a lot of its resource into local, and that means Google My Business, which is your business listing with a pin on the map. And we’ll look in a future blog post about what they’re doing, but there’s all sorts of features now in Google My Business in terms of adding products and services and putting a lot more information there, so a lot of opportunity to get on Google page one. So we’ll look at that in future blog posts. But if you’ve got any questions, let me know.
