Get Noticed and Get Found using SEO in 2021
A Happy New Year to all Hampshire businesses and business owners. The start to 2021 looks very challenging as we look to stem virus spread until we can get enough people vaccinated.
If as an owner-manager, your ‘business as usual’ activities are a lot quieter, there are things you can do to now that will help in the future. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is one activity. Here are some simple and non-technical tips to help your website send out stronger signals to Google and other search engines.
Free online website audit
Use a free service, like the one from Yell Business to audit your website. You get a status report and a list of recommendations. The report provides a score and taking the action will improve the score. In turn, your website’s visibility will improve.
Take advantage of free online tools
Get to know and invest time in Google My Business (GMB) this year. Google provide this utility specifically for independent businesses. GMB gives local businesses a credible, sustained and helpful presence on the Number 1 search engine. Don’t ignore Bing Places either. It is Microsoft’s equivalent service.
Community business listings
If you service a local market in the area where you’re based your community is asset to leverage. Research if there are community listings websites your business can be a part of. Are there community Facebook Groups you can join and help people looking for local services? Is there a local sports team or similar to sponsor in exchange for publicity and reciprocal website links? These activities all help send strong marketing signals to search engines.
Be a part and play a part
The successful local businesses are those that pass the ‘word of mouth’ test. Here in Fleet, Hampshire, it’s the same mortgage broker and Will writer that gets recommended time after time. It’s no coincidence that these business owners are among the most active in the local community. The Rotary, Lions, school governor, charity, volunteering. There are so many ways to make a positive community contribution.
Take testimonials to the next level
One liner customer testimonials don’t punch through like they once used to. They are too common and customers don’t register the message. Try and expand them where possible. Case studies are brilliant for this and work well where a customer has been super-pleased. Structure the case study by explaining the problem, then how you helped them and finally what the outcome was.
Blog writing
You are an expert in whatever field your business operates in. You know far more than others do – as is the case with Leapfrog and SEO. At Leapfrog Internet Marketing we write at least a blog a month. The subject matter is about what we do that can help Hampshire businesses with their online presence. If we think blog writing is important and we know about SEO, doesn’t that send out a message?
DIY SEO can make improvements to the online visibility of your business. But it will only take you so far. In a year when more business than ever before will be transacted online, let Leapfrog Internet Marketing help get you a slice of the action.
