Hampshire Business Focus: Top Ten Facebook Pages to Inspire You
Here in Hampshire, we’re home to over half of the top performing companies in the South East. According to the BDO, the county contains some 86,000 businesses, generating an economic output that totals £50 billion and making us one of the most successful economies in the UK. While digital, aerospace, defence and financial services are prominent business sectors, the county is actually home to a large and diverse business community. This includes tens of thousands of SMEs – in fact, in East Hampshire, 90% of businesses employ less than 10 people. So how do these businesses get ahead in an increasingly challenging economic environment? SEO is vital to ensure your website is found, but business owners should also be mindful of their social media marketing.
Research shows that in the UK, 45 million of us use social media, equating to 67% of the population. Given that users spend an average 1 hour 50 minutes per day browsing social media sites, it’s easy to see how powerful social media campaigns can be.
Among social media platforms, the top three are undoubtedly Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. No longer simply a means of sharing updates, social media is now a powerful tool for promoting and selling products. However, it’s not just about refreshing content, it’s about sharing relevant and enticing information, and interacting with posts.
Of the big three, Facebook remains the dominant social media channel in the UK. In fact, a staggering 78% of internet users use Facebook, meaning that 40 million people can be reached with advertising on this platform. You may not have the largest, swankiest office, you may not employ the most people, but online you can walk among giants.
If you’re looking to boost your company’s social media presence or are creating your Facebook page, then we recommend first looking at who’s doing it right. By emulating social media strategies, you can help your Hampshire business get ahead on social media. So where should you start? To help cut down your research time, we’ve consulted Statista to find the most popular brand pages on Facebook in the UK. Yes, these may be large multinationals with unlimited social media budgets, but we can all learn from what these businesses are doing. The type of content they’re posting, sharing and streaming can help us all to maximise the impact of our businesses on social media platforms.
Here are the top 10, from 1st to 10th position:
1. Amazon UK
Amazon has achieved first position with 5.73 million local fans. Yes, this may be one of the biggest players of them all, but the success of the brand page on Facebook isn’t just down to their e-commerce platform, but also streaming and sharing digital content. Think about sharing relevant information with your customers and creating engaging, creative content to captivate your audience.
2. UNREEL
Coming in second place with 4.86 million local fans, UNREEL is a high-octane Facebook page for all X Games fans. Featuring spectacular content including skating, snowboarding, free-running and surfing, this site shows the importance of slick video content in capturing an audience. The numbers for this brand page come in at a radical 4.86 million.
3. The Body Coach
It’s obvious why, in recent times, this platform is doing so well. There’s definitely a need for us all to stay in shape, but given these results were recorded in March, pre-lockdown, they’re all the more impressive. Workout videos, dieting tips and content that’s regularly updated ensures some 3.84 million are attracted to the brand page.
4. British Airways
Defined by their most famous slogan ‘The World’s Favourite Airline’, BA uses their Facebook page brilliantly with a mix of travel information, advice and offers. According to the research, the BA Facebook platform reached 3.23 million local fans.
5. Next
Next has always been a great model for e-commerce, and it’s Facebook platform is hugely successful, attracting 2.66 million local fans.
6. Tesco
Tesco Mobile may seem a surprise coming in 6th position, but the business uses this platform to truly interact with customers. In fact, one of the reasons for the popularity is the dry, acerbic wit used in the company’s responses! Tongue in cheek, but ultimately helpful, this policy definitely helps diffuse situations and has gained a great following for the company, with 2.64 million local fans recorded.
7. SportsDirect.com
This is visually a great brand page, with an excellent combination of videos, competitions and e-commerce ads. It comes in at 7th place, attracting 2.57 million local fans.
8. Cadbury Creme Egg
Is it any surprise in a nation of chocolate lovers? Although the fact this research was conducted just before Easter may have helped its popularity, with 2.37 million local fans visiting recorded! This is an example of seasonal marketing, with the site driving content at times of popularity.
9. AutoCAD
A software company may seem a dry business for Facebook popularity, but it shows what can be achieved with polished, informative content. We’re sure the 2.25 million local fans recorded would agree.
10. eBay.co.uk
This may seem a low position for the online trading goliath, with 2.2 million local fans, but it’s a really impressive Facebook page with great ideas for advertising campaigns; it’s also used for customer feedback, with the company investing time into answering queries and complaints.
We hope you enjoy creating and curating your Facebook platform. There’s some fantastic content out there and excellent social media strategies to learn from. One important take home is that, on Facebook, video has the highest engagement rate, so if you want to keep your audience then get creating today! Also make sure you stay up to date with where your audience hangs out, and any new channels emerging (TikTok, we mean you!)
