How the Kickstart scheme can help Surrey and Hampshire businesses
The Kickstart Scheme is a £2 billion fund to create hundreds of thousands of six month work placements for young people (aged between 16 and 24) who are on Universal Credit and maybe at risk of long term unemployment.
The Kickstart Scheme requires an organisation to supply 30 roles to government in a proposal to access the funding. However, there is a way that smaller businesses can join in a with collaborative application.
There is a list of representatives that applications can be made through in this region, including Hampshire Chamber of Commerce. Other representative bodies in Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, Kent, East and West Sussex can be found here.
The Government will fund 100% of the National Minimum Wage for 25 hours per week as well as National Insurance contributions and employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions.
The Scheme is potentially an affordable way to access a young talent pool. If the six month placement is successful there is an opportunity to recruit and mould a new team member. The risk of the Scheme is low and the rewards are potentially high.
