I’m Geoff from Leapfrog Internet Marketing. This is looking at why getting in the top three on Google page one is so, so important. Let’s take a search term for “vets in Fleet,” and at the moment, we’re ranked seventh on page one. Okay, so if you do a search for “vets in Fleet,” you have the rankings coming down here, and let’s say we’re in seventh position. So, if we take that 7th position here for every 100 searches, we will get 2.6, so let’s say 3 clickthroughs to our website.
However, if we can move that ranking seven just, say, four pips to ranking three, we’re actually going to almost triple the amount of clickthroughs to the website, and then it goes up even further if you’re second and first. So, this position here in the top three is where you really get a lot more clickthroughs, and with something like vets, which is B2C, you can expect an awful lot of people on mobile devices. So, when you look at this curve for mobile devices, it’s even more important to be in the top three.
You know, 27% of people click on just the first position on a mobile device, compared to on a desktop, it’s 19%, and the reason for that’s fairly simple. On a mobile, you have less screen real estate, and people just don’t scroll down as far, so they concentrate in the top part of the rankings. So that really answers the question of why it’s so important to be in the top three on Google.
