The Future Of Work: Five Tech Skills Anyone Should Have no Matter Their Profession

How many tech devices do you have at your home? Most people will say at least one, but everyone will probably have four or five smart devices. Being tech-savvy is now expected from every one, no matter the age. But some tech skills can be more helpful than others in your life and work.

It doesn’t matter if you are a quality assurance engineer or a recruitment agent; knowing how to use technology to your advantage is a must. It will not only improve your life because you will start using tech as a tool, but it will undoubtedly enhance your curriculum.

SEO

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a set of rules that search engines use to position websites to provide better results for their users. Companies can follow these rules to increase organic traffic to their websites, improving quality and quantity. It includes keyword optimization on and off-page, domain optimization, link building, and many other methods.

If the business you work for has any online presence, having SEO knowledge will be valuable to them no matter your position. It can be applied in anything from websites to promoted posts and social media profiles.

Having these skills could even improve your chances of looking for a new job. It is the key to building an online presence for any business or person. You don’t have to become an SEO expert to improve your career, but having basic knowledge in SEO strategies like how to make on-page keyword optimization is a huge plus.

Project Management

Project or product management can be a career on its own, but many people that fill this position don’t learn this skill in university. Project managers use all their abilities and expertise to organize a team or resources to reach a project’s goal. The project can be the development of a product or the launch of a service.

Most professionals want to grow in their career and eventually reach leadership positions in their company. So generally, people that reach this position do it by accumulating years of experience in their niche. But this can lead to wrong results when reaching a manager level without having a degree in management.

So, having one from the beginning will make your performance excellent from the start. You will learn how to organize your time and responsibilities, no matter how small they are. All companies need project managers, so no matter your career, this skill will boost your curriculum.

An excellent choice to learn product management is a coding bootcamp. Product School offers an eight-week course on product management so that you could have your certification in no time at all. It also provides the classes of product leader and product executive for people to further their managerial skills.

Information Security

With the world moving to digital platforms, our actions on the Internet and even outside of it get recorded. Most companies have their mobile apps to collect information from the user’s device.

If you carry your smartphone everywhere, anyone could attack your email and find out all of the locations you’ve visited. Or, in a worse case, they can easily steal your sensitive information like credit card numbers or banking information.

If the information could be harmful to you or not doesn’t really matter, the point is that it is your data, and you should be aware that it’s at risk. That’s what information security protects your information from digital threats. This not only applies to businesses but every one of us.

Many people don’t even know the risks the Internet has, so having basic information security knowledge should be obligatory for every person in the world we live in today. Being aware of things like digital viruses, malware, and cyberattacks, and knowing how to use antivirus software and VPNs should be standard by now.

Code Fellows offer a one-day workshop that teaches the basics of personal cybersecurity and how to defend from cyber attacks. It lasts eight hours, and people will learn resources to check personal data exposure, how to create good passwords, and how to protect your online accounts.

Social Media

As mentioned, our world has become digital and many aspects of our lives are done there. So part of our work or life relationships are done through the Internet. And for that, we need a digital presence. Social media is part of creating your online presence, and you can interact with friends, family, and coworkers through them.

Moreover, social media has become a way for employers to check on possible candidates and a tool for professionals to network. With today’s generations, having social media knowledge is expected from everyone. And as with the other skills, you don’t need to be an expert, learn how to simplify things like applying to a job or making a post on different platforms.

Business Intelligence or Analytics

Data has become the new wheel that keeps many businesses rolling. Being aware of how your company uses data to drive decisions will allow you to give a better performance. Also, knowing how your data is used by companies online is something everyone has to know, you won’t probably prevent it but will know it’s being done.

There are other cases where managers and executives prefer their employees to present decisions backed up with data, so knowing how to use data analytic software will impress your superiors. Overall, being data-aware will help you make an impression with your employers and make better decisions at work and in your usage of technologies.

In Summary

All these skills can be learned in a few days or a few months at the most. They will improve your performance at work and your overall relationship with technology.

Learning about search engine optimization, project management, information security, social media, and business analytics shouldn’t be a question. And maybe soon, these skills will become mandatory for all careers and professions.
